Counselling
in a Safe Environment
My name is Martin Spooner and I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor based in Farnham, Surrey. I offer a safe space where you are free to talk in a confidential environment. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere to the BACP's ethical framework . I currently work within the NHS on weekdays, but I am available to see private clients after 5 pm Mon-Fri and also at the weekend. My private practice is based in central Farnham, or alternatively I can offer remote sessions via video link.
I provide genuine, caring, therapeutic counselling services and I focus on fostering a safe and supportive environment where you can feel empowered to achieve your mental health goals.
Your Path to Wellness
My goal is to focus on your unique experiences and the outcomes that you hope to achieve by engaging in the process of counselling.
Together we will explore your patterns of thinking and relating to others and my aim is to help you to achieve greater self-awareness by evaluating your past life events and understanding how these have shaped you as a human being and the way that you behave.

Individual Face to Face Counselling
Highly focussed 'in-person' sessions lasting 5o minutes make for an extremely effective therapeutic experience . Sessions would take place at The Eaves in central Farnham and typically would recur on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Virtual Therapy
This form of therapy is a popular alternative to 'in-person' sessions. It allows for greater flexibility and convenience and has become widely accepted as an extremely effective way of delivering counselling sessions over longer distances, or where there might be difficulties in attending face to face. Sessions again last for 50 minutes and would be conducted virtually using an online meeting facility such as Teams or Zoom.

Walking and Mindfulness
As an alternative to sessions taking place in a consulting room or online I am also available 'walk and talk' at pre-agreed locations in the Farnham area. This can make a refreshing change to more formal settings and being in nature can provide a calming environment that can be conducive to improved mental health and reduced anxiety. These sessions can also focus on mindfulness techniques that can then be used in daily life as effective coping mechanisms in times of difficult thoughts.
